Win $5,000 For Your School

Vocalpoint is giving you a chance to win $5,000 for your favorite grade school or high school. All you have to do is register and watch the trailer for “Game of Your Life.”

It’s a humorous and heartfelt video gaming drama about a promising young video game designer who has to make a choice that will affect his future and the lives of everyone around him. Then ask all your friends, family, teachers, fellow parents and PTO members – everyone you know – to watch it so they can vote for your school once a day, too. Because if any one of the people you tell wins, your school wins $5,000.

Synopsis: Zach, a high school gamer who lands a scholarship to an elite video game design program, has a bright future as long as he can survive the intense freshman year project that eliminates half the class in the first three months. But when Zach learns that his father is in financial trouble, he has to make a choice that will affect his future and the lives of everyone around him. This humorous and heartfelt drama is a great reminder to kids – and all of us – that the choices they make impact the people around them. “Game of Your Life” airs Friday, December 2nd 8/7c on NBC.

Getting Real About Eating

A “love affair” with food? For most women it’s more like a love-hate relationship. Sure, there’s passion, but it’s often fleeting and replaced instantaneously by guilt.

So, I was intrigued when I heard of a new book:
Real Moms Love to Eat: How to Conduct a Love Affair with Food and Still Look Fabulous (New American Library, a member of the Penguin Group (USA), January 3, 2012).

The author, Beth Aldrich, is a Certified Health Counselor, Healthy Lifestyle and Nutrition Expert.
She blogs at http://www.realmomslovetoeat.com

Another “diet” book? Hardly. Aldrich emphasizes that moms–and their families–can find both health and pleasure in their food. Chocolate (in moderation) is allowed, and you don’t have to give up your morning mug of coffee.
Aldrich’s goal is to teach women about how food impacts our bodies; we can recognize the consequences but still have fun experiencing new foods and enjoying our lives. The trick, of course, is giving recommendations that are both both helpful and realistic.

Much of the advice in Aldrich’s book will be familiar to health-conscious women: drink plenty of water; try to eat vegetarian at least twice a week; buy organic or locally-produced foods when possible.
Aldrich includes a suggested 21-day menu/eating plan.
In the back there are tempting healthy recipes like Harvest Pumpkin & Black Bean Soup, Warm & Nutty Cinnamon Quinoa, and Apple Cobbler.
Aldrich knows that busy women don’t always have time to cook, so her concept of cooking once but eating two or three times from that prepared meal will be appreciated by the stressed-out women among us.

The book launches on January 3rd. All pre-orders qualify for prizes–we all love prizes!!

Let’s hope that real moms really can learn how to LOVE eating and being healthy!

Disclosure: I was gifted from Restoring Essence Nutrition, LLC-owner of Real Moms Love to Eat, a free digital copy of the book, “Real Moms Love to Eat” and an entry into the prize drawing on January 3,2012, for participating in this virtual tour and writing about this book pre-order contest.
